Listening Library
The department’s collection of recorded music is available to students in CH 102 with the understanding that the records and CDs must be used in the room and do not circulate. Access to the room is by approved I.D. only. Fair use provisions allow for VERY LIMITED duplication for education purposes only. Unauthorized copying may be in violation of current copyright laws, and the Music Department is not responsible for such violations.
Score Library
Austin College’s collection of musical scores is housed in the Score Library (CH 107). The Library is open during normal hours, but music majors and students taking upper-level music courses may also request a key through the Music/Art office coordinator. Note that the study facilities are meant for students working primarily with the materials housed in these rooms. Failure to use these spaces responsibly and according to posted rules will result in the need to limit access to daytime hours only. Scores in the collection may be checked out from the Music Office coordinator for a three week period under the same general regulations as apply for circulating materials housed in the Abell Library.
Computing Resources
Craig Hall 105 contains six computers with Finale, GarageBand, Logic Express, and other music applications. MIDI keyboards are also available. These computers are intended for students working with class assignments and usage is monitored. They are not to be used for recreational internet use. Access to the room may be arranged through the music office during regular building hours. After hours, authorized students may check out a key from Campus Police. Students should archive their work as the hard drives on these systems are cleaned each month.
Composition Lab
This room is intended for student composers. The lab contains three Mac Pro computers with Roland XP-10 synthesizers as well as a printer. Access is by approval of Dr. John McGinn or the department chair and is reserved for students enrolled in composition courses or lessons.
