Who are we?
Well, that depends on who you are. More than 10% of Austin College students play, sing, and study music at Austin College, but many of them are non-music majors. There are opportunities to participate in ensembles, take courses, and study your instrument regardless of your other academic interests.
Of course, for the major or minor, there are serious (and not-so-serious!) studies designed to make music a part of your academic and career goals and prepare you to make real contributions to the world of music as a creator, teacher, and performer.
Not sure about studying music? Did you know that music majors are the most likely group of college grads to be admitted to medical school? Physician and biologist Lewis Thomas studied the undergraduate majors of medical school applicants. He found that 66 percent of music majors who applied to med school were admitted, the highest percentage of any group. For comparison, 44 percent of biochemistry majors were admitted.
